My Story
Hello, I’m Lynette.
I’ve always been drawn to art, but after I took my first pottery class in high school, there was no turning back. I found that I love working with my hands and am passionate about working with clay. I went on to study ceramics in college and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
I enjoy being outdoors, especially when I’m gardening or hiking. I‘m inspired by nature—always learning and seeing new colors, patterns and color combinations. I have a passion for functional pottery, and, because I’m a longtime gardener and chef, I feel strongly connected to growing, cooking and serving food in handmade vessels. I was an assistant manager for an organic farm for over ten years, and I loved working with all the colors and textures of the plants. Being outside all day, I’d notice small things like the subtle color shifts throughout the day and over time as one season would give way to the next. In my work, I’m interested in the smaller details that reveal themselves when you stop to notice.
I also loved being in the kitchens of the restaurants we sold our produce to. I feel a connection to the beauty of a plate set with nourishing, beautiful food – I would love for my work to nourish the person as much as the food it holds does.
Beyond the dining table, we live with ceramics all throughout our homes. My interest in making pottery for everyday life grows from this, and I have ventured into architectural ceramics—primarily, vessel sinks and pendant lights. I’m exploring many, many possibilities. I care very deeply about providing life and beauty in our dwelling places—and handmade objects can add both.
My current work ranges from larger art instillation pieces that I call “clay paintings,” to architectural ceramics and functional pottery. My pieces are on tables and in homes and restaurants across the United States. I have taught numerous classes and workshops, but right now I am mostly working in my studio.
